Chairman of the Board of Directors at Alfa Banking Group, Member of the Board of Directors, Alfa Bank
Pyotr Aven has chaired the Alfa Banking Group BoD since June 2011.
From 1994 to June 2011, he served as president of Alfa Bank and was responsible for the overall development strategy and for relations with business and government circles in Russia and abroad.
Prior to joining Alfa Bank, Mr Aven headed the Foreign Economic Relations Ministry in 1991-92 and was Russia’s representative to the G7.
In 1989-91, he worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Laxenburg, Austria). Prior to that, he was a senior research fellow at the Institute of System Studies, USSR Academy of Sciences.
Mr Aven graduated from Moscow State University and holds a PhD in economics. He is a professor at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics and the author of numerous scientific papers and publications on trade and economic development. He often appears in Russia and abroad to lecture on economic development. He has been awarded the Order of Merit and a number of international awards.
Mr Aven is BoD Chairman at Alfa Insurance and a board member of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. He is also a member of the Presidium of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs, a member of the Association for National Financial Reporting Standards, a trustee of the New Economic School and the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in the UK, and A member of the board of trustees at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
In 2007, Mr Aven was elected head of the Russian-Latvian Business Council.
He actively supports the arts and theater in Russia, and is the largest collector of Russian art from the early 20th century.
