Chairman, Milken Institute

A legendary financier widely known for innovations that helped create millions of jobs in more than 3,200 companies since 1969, Michael Milken is often said to have revolutionised modern capital markets, making them more dynamic and democratic. The Washington Post said he “helped create the conditions for America’s explosion of wealth and creativity.

Regarded as one of America’s leading philanthropists, Milken was called “The Man Who Changed Medicine” by Fortune magazine. Since 1982, the Milken Family Foundation has advanced programmes in medical research and education. He also chairs the Milken Institute whose Annual Global Conference, which has been held for 14 years runing (on May 1-3), brings more than 3,000 business leaders from 60 nations to Los Angeles. The Institute’s FasterCures center removes barriers to disease research.

Milken graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and the Wharton School. He and his wife of 43 years have three children and six grandchildren.
