Rosatom

The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM incorporates more than 250 enterprises, including civil nuclear companies of Russia, nuclear weapons complex facilities, research organisations, organisations of nuclear and radiation safety and the world’s only nuclear-propelled fleet. The total number of staff is more than 270,000 people.

At present ROSATOM is:

  • the 1st in the world in terms of NPP construction: 31 nuclear power units at different construction stages, including 10 nuclear power units constructed in Russia;

  • 45% of the world’s uranium enrichment services;
  • the 4th in the world in terms of nuclear electricity generation;
  • the 2nd in uranium reserves and the 4th in terms of uranium production;
  • 17% of the world nuclear fuel market.

ROSATOM ensures execution of state policy in the field of atomic energy use. ROSATOM is also tasked to fulfil Russia’s international obligations in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy and nuclear non-proliferation regime.

ROSATOM performs ambitious plan of NPP construction both in Russia and abroad. Backlog of orders has reached 31 nuclear power units by the end of 2011 including foreign projects. Among the most significant projects are the Baltic NPP construction project in the Kaliningrad Region which envisages participation of foreign investors and the Akkuyu NPP construction project in Turkey, which is the first NPP construction project worldwide applying a build-own-operate model.
